Abstract

Although foraging of plovers is usually considered to be a stereotypical /"run-stop-peck" activity (Urban 1986), various other forms of obtaining prey have been recorded. These include probing (Piersma 1996), hawking (Urban 1986) and foot-trembling (Steyn 1966).
