About the Journal
Global Health Innovation is an electronic, peer-reviewed open access journal published bi-annually by the University of Cape Town Libraries. The journal is the product of a partnership between Northwestern University, the University of Lagos, the University of Ibadan, and the University of Cape Town, and its development has been supported by a grant from the NIH-Fogarty International Center (D43TW009374).
Focus and Scope
The journal has the mission of advancing and disseminating knowledge on all aspects of social and technological innovation for improved health and healthcare, with an emphasis on research addressing developing settings and with a developmental focus.
Studies across a broad range of innovation activities are covered in the journal. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: the design, implementation and evaluation of innovations in the global health context; development and implementation of appropriate health technologies; theories and methodologies that support and seek to understand health innovation practice and management; training and curricula in global health innovation; and interdisciplinary research that highlights the interface between technology, health sciences and social sciences in achieving impactful health innovation.

Peer Review Process
All research and review articles and short communications are double-blind peer-reviewed by subject specialists. Commentaries are reviewed by a member of the Editorial Board.
Open Access Policy
This is a diamond open access journal providing immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Authors retain copyright and works published in this journal are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). The CC BY license allows anyone to remix, adapt, and build upon one's work, even commercially on the proviso that the author of the original work is acknowledged.
The journal does not charge Article Processing Charges (APCs) and all works are immediately available online at no cost to authors and readers. Articles from this journal can be submitted to institutional repositories, under the following conditions:
- Always upload the final publishers' version as published at https://journals.uct.ac.za/index.php/GHI
- Acknowledge the University of Cape Town Libraries as the publisher.
- Include the DOI as part of the citation.
