Backup and Preservation

The Journal of African Real Estate Research (JARER) is hosted on one of the African Platform for Open Scholarship (APOS) Open Journal Systems (OJS) instances, supported and regularly backed up by the University of Cape Town’s Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS). These regular backups automatically create, manage, and store copies of files, folders, or entire systems in a separate location (such as the cloud or an external drive) to prevent permanent data loss, thereby ensuring business continuity and data security through rapid restoration after hardware failures, ransomware attacks, or accidental deletion. For long-term preservation, JARER is registered with the PKP Preservation Network, which deposits content using the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) programme, enabling continued access to published content even if the original software is no longer supported.
